What do you do when you’re one of the technological giants and dominate several aspects of our technological lives?
You do it some more! Or at least, that was the case with Google.
Youtube Red is… Red.
The advertisements for this were way more intense back in the day, but YouTube Red is a subscription-based service, which might be living its last few days.
Basically, monthly payments to YouTube Red:
- Allows you to access an exclusive YouTube library (so you can keep watching more of Logan Paul videos),
- Removes all the annoying advertisements that spam you every 3 minutes,
- Allows you to play videos without you even having the YouTube app open (on your mobile devices!)
- Add offline music to that list, so basically a direct competition to your Spotify and Apple Music apps.
Wait. Then what’s YouTube Music?
YouTube Music launched circa 2015, and aimed to be your everyday-music-app, where you could pretty much browse through videos on YouTube(…yeah, I don’t get it either). Shortly after this launch, came YouTube Red with all of the above mentioned features.
Now, you’ve probably never heard about YouTube Music before, which is why Google said:
“Listen. You’ve probably never heard of YouTube Music before, so we’re going to make some changes around here“.
So essentially what has happened is that Google has taken YouTube Red and divided it into two.
On one hand you have the new YouTube Music, which will cost $9.99 a month and will let you continue to use the audio side of your YouTube Red features.
On the other hand, you have the new YouTube Premium, which (although costing $11.99), is essentially YouTube Music, but with videos too. YouTube Premium let’s you access all of the offline music, PLUS ad-free video, background playing, downloading, and exclusive YouTube originals.
Although the new YouTube features are officially launched on May 22nd, if you don’t live in:
Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, or the country where the royal wedding just took place, then you’re going to have to wait a teeny bit more.
Lucky for you, you could always be notified when the service is ready. Just sign up on this link right here and YouTube will alert you when YouTube Red is available in your country!
